| Today, we had BLTs for lunch. There was some guacamole leftover from yesterday's lunch (tacos) so I put some on my sandwich because guacamole is delicious. So I had a Guacamole, Lettuce, Bacon and Tomato sandwich. Or, as I like to call it, a GLBT. It was delicious.

I wrote this
last night, but it was late and I was tired, so I couldn't be arsed to
edit and upload it, but I'm doing that now. Whatever.
It's snowing right now. Light, gritty
flakes that blow across the streets and sidewalks like sand. In the
illuminated pools of light around the streetlights, I can see the
wind blowing the flakes, almost at a horizontal angle. For an
instant, the wind stops and the flakes float in the air, some
motionless, some actually appearing to move upwards, as if their
sheer beauty and purity is enough to defy even the laws of gravity.

Okay,
so today is finally the day. The day that I get to finally get to
bust out all my hilarious insults, analogies and observations about
that literary tripe The Pornography of Meat (pun very intended). And
guess what? The discussion has been postponed to Monday. Friday we
had a guest speaker from the local battered women's shelter and she
got to give her whole lecture on domestic violence, the shelter and
what they do. The interesting thing is that she actually couldn't
tell us the location of the shelter. That information is apparently
classified and is only available to employees, residents and
volunteers of the shelter. I bet it's on the moon. Like, a secret
moon base. Yea, that'd rock.
Today,
and every day that I pass to and from my biochemistry class, I see a
piece of furniture in the hallway. It's kind of beat up; I guess
it's in the hall because nobody wants it. The interesting thing is a
small piece of thin cardboard that is laying on the top of this piece
of furniture. It says, in black sharpie, “Fish Parasites.”
Well, it's the biology building, so that's really not so surprising.
But what is disturbing is the smaller label underneath. It adds, “-
For Research.” As if there needed to be clarification? Maybe is
does need to be clarified. Somewhere in Haworth, I bet there's a
tank or beaker or petri dish or something that is labeled “Fish
Parasites – For World Domination.”
Okay,
later that night, I went to see Zathura with Sid. I know this has
probably been pointed out before, but, seriously, the plot for
Zathura: “Jumanji. In space!” Still, it was a pretty
entertaining movie. Pretty predictable and none too enlightening,
but pretty cool nonetheless. Oh, and Sid's car has heated seats!
This is a feature that I had only heard about in commercials and I
thought that it was merely a fairy tale or an urban legend. It makes
me feel like I'm a chicken sitting on a frying pan. But, in a good
way.
Saturday
was spent with my friends. Well, as soon as I managed to get there.
When I tried to start my car, it wouldn't... Oh, I don't know the
fancy car terminology for it. “Go”. Anyway, I'll have to get a
jump and then go get a new battery for it on Monday. I hate cars. I
hate driving. I truly hope to some day move to a place where I can
comfortably live without a car. Wherever that is.
Anyway,
Sean brought along a friend/coworker of his, Jackie. She seemed like
a “normal” person and so it was embarrassing that all our
conversations were so in-joke/geekdom related. Sean didn't even seem
to care that his friend was almost completely ostracized. I kind of
felt bad for her. I want Sid to meet some of my friends and I want
my friends to meet her, but after that night, I am reluctant to bring
her to “the apartment” and all the high-geekery that that
entails. Maybe just one or two at a time? Maybe a double date with
Tim and Marcy, or Vincent and Laryssa? Oh well. I'm sure I'll think
of something.
Sunday
was a whirlwind of cooking and eating. We had a thanksgiving dinner
with the girl's hall Miller. They made the turkeys and the desserts
and we made the sides. Even with eight cooks, this still took a
while. We made green bean casserole, mashed potatoes (from scratch),
sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls, corn and stuffing. Oh yea,
and we carved all of the turkeys after the Miller girls brought them
over. Well, at least I now know how to carve a turkey. And I got to
wear my cooking hat and an apron to dinner. That was pretty cool.
But, still, that took up way too much of my day.
I
watched Boondocks for the second time tonight. I definitely have to
say that it was better than the first episode, but I still think that
the show has some issues with the dialog, voice acting or timing or
something. The speech just sounds kind stilted and out of sync to
me. Oh well, it's still funny as hell.

Second-to-last physics lab of the semester today. I should be
excited because I hate that class so much, as I have said before, but
it has really gotten better, I think. Maybe it's just because the TA
brought cookies for us last week. Hmmm, I guessing that that has
absolutely nothing to do with the TA evaluations that we had to do
this week...
I have pretty much
clocked out already, so to speak. So many classes are canceled next
week. Really, I only have three classes between the two days. And I
already have all the homework for those classes done. World of
Warcraft is fun, but I can still only play it for so long. At least
I finally hit level 40 on my druid. Leader of The Pack is pretty
awesome, but I wish that Dire Bear form looked... Well, more Dire
than regular bear form. Oh well. +360% more armour. I ain't
complainin'.
Well, Sid came
over today and we watched some Clone High and talked about a wide
variety of various topics. All in all, I had a wonderful time.
Sometimes, I am afraid that I will run out of things to say, that I
will exhaust my bank of anecdotes and stories. But, as long as I
keep living, I think I'll keep finding more stories, even if I have
to make them up.
Let us never stop
dreaming.

I was so excited about being able to
finally discuss that piece-of-shit book The Pornography of Meat in
women's studies class today, but, as it turns out, I misread the
syllabus. There was actually a different reading for today (which I
didn't do) about spousal abuse; we will discuss the book on Friday
and again on Monday. Well, at least my not reading the article did
not impair my ability to join the discussion. The topic of spousal
abuse quickly degenerated into the broader topic of domestic violence
and from there, to child abuse and spanking. I guess that's probably
because we all have experience as children, being spanked or not, but
few of us are married. Hmmm. My view on spanking: if the child is
too young to understand what they have done wrong, any punishment,
spanking included, is pretty much ineffective and so should not be
used. There is another age where the child is both mature enough to
know right from wrong and developed enough to have favorite
activities, toys and such. Because they are mature enough to know
when they have done something wrong, they can be punished as an
effective incentive to not do the act again. However, because they
have things or privileges that can be taken away, they should be
punished by removing these things, not by spanking. However, if
there is a child in between these ages, where they know enough to
know right from wrong but do not yet have a clear source of pleasure,
pain may be the only way to get to them. I guess this sounds pretty
bad, but I guess it's kind of like an animal; there's no way you can
house train a dog without hitting it. There really aren't that many
children in such a state of mind, so there are probably very few
cases where spanking would be appropriate. Then again, what the hell
do I know? I'm not a parent, so my opinions really don't count for
much. Hmph. Maybe someday...
Spanish oral exam, later in the day.
The whole thing kind of threw me off guard. So, here's the thing:
you and two other students (randomly selected) will be given a random
topic and will discuss the topic for eight minutes. The instructor
will listen to and record (!) your conversation, but will at no point
become a part of it. So, there was really no way to study for such a
thing. Well, we ended up talking about movies for eight minutes.
“No he visto muchas peliculas en los ultimos años”.
Oh yeeeeaaaa, that's the good stuff.
That only left the rest of the day to
study for the physics test. I really didn't put as much effort into
this one as I did for the last one, but really this one just seemed
to be easier. Well, this suspicion was confirmed after I took the
test. If I missed any of those questions, it would have to be due to
gross incompetence on my part. Gross
incompetence. Well, as long as I beat Shaner, I'll be fine.
